Panama Bartholomy is an advisor for Karen Douglas, a commissioner at the CA Energy
Commission where he advises her on climate change, land use, renewable
energy, transmission, green building, and biofuels policy. He is a
board member on the Northern California Chapter of the United States
Green Building Council and the Humboldt Bay Center for Sustainable
Living. He serves on the City of Sacramento's Planning Commission and
General Plan Advisory Committee and is a Commissioner on the County of
Sacramento's Environmental Commission. He previously worked for the
California Conservation Corps on vocational environmental education and
the Division of the State Architect where he ran the Sustainable
Schools program.

Jim Coyle is a leader in green building services at Pankow Builders.
His professional career has spanned 15 years at Pankow, constructing
projects in Los Angeles, New York, Oregon and throughout the Bay Area.
These have spanned from large scale civic projects, to urban
infill/mixed-use, to interior improvements. Mr. Coyle is a past board member
of CSI San Francisco, and a past chair of its Green Committee. He is a
member of the BOMA Environment Committee, the Sierra Club, and active
in many other sustainable minded organizations. Mr. Coyle is also a member of
the Pankow Green Strategic Planning Committee, implementing best
practices in Pankow’s internal and external operations.

Brandon Tinianov, LEED AP

Dr. Tinianov is a recognized expert in building science and in the
creation and patenting of novel construction materials to support
global sustainability initiatives. A registered Professional Engineer,
LEED Accredited Professional, and consistent Bay Area bike commuter,
Dr. Tinianov is devoted to implementing globally sustainable practices
in both his professional and personal life. Brandon is an experienced
leader of volunteer organizations, serving for two years as the
founding chairman of the Silicon Valley Branch of the US Green Building
Council (USGBC) and also serving as an Executive Officer of American
Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee E60 on
Sustainability. He often serves as an adviser and a “designated expert”
on various ISO and ANSI working groups on the topics building and
environmental design.
Prior to joining Serious Materials
in 2004, Dr. Tinianov provided eight years of leadership to the
Building Sciences and Engineering Applications Center of Excellence at
Johns Manville Corporation in Denver, CO, where his areas of focus
included noise and vibration control and energy management. As an
inventor, Dr. Tinianov has 12 issued patents and holds more than twenty
pending applications.

Lisa
Michelle Galley is the Founder and Principal of Galley Eco Capital, a
green building financial consulting firm. Formerly, Ms. Galley was a senior
real estate banker representing HSH Nordbank. Ms. Galley’s background gives
her an extensive reach within the institutional real estate and
financial services communities to benefit the USGBC.
In her work as a banker, Ms. Galley has helped build real estate finance
businesses out of Germany, New York and San Francisco. Her expertise also
extends to sustainable real estate, where she has arranged finance
transactions for green real estate as well as participated actively in
sustainable real estate thought leadership. She is a sought after
speaker and adviser on commercial real estate finance, underwriting and
lending on green real estate, urban sustainability, and innovating
financial services. She is also the author of Our Green Journey, which contains articles on the emerging
issues and trends in financing and investing in green real estate.

As Corporate Sustainability Manager at Swinerton Builders, Grant French provides data and intelligence to each office of the Swinerton family of companies, to stimulate and support the successful pursuit and execution of Green and LEED projects. He provides input in the RFQ and Proposal Process for Green/LEED Projects and also serves as a Green resource throughout project delivery. Grant initiates and manages job-specific and LEED Accreditation Green Training Programs. On an ongoing basis, he works with various teams to evaluate and strive towards continual improvement in jobsite and office sustainable practices. Mr. French’s project experience includes: Orchard Garden Hotel, San Francisco, CA; Orchard Hotel, San Francisco, CA; Jane D’Anza Convent, San Rafael, CA; Golden Gate Park Music Concourse and Underground Parking Facility, San Francisco, CA; and River Rock Casino, Geyserville, CA. His professional experience prior to joining Swinerton Builders includes work with William McDonough+Partners, Institute for the Built Environment, The Hoffman Corporation and McRaven Restorations.

Matt Macko, LEED AP

Through hands-on experience in the construction and development fields,
Matt Macko came to appreciate firsthand the need for progress in green
building. From the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, Mr. Macko received degrees in both economics and finance as well as an
Entrepreneurial Certification. Meanwhile, he was the President of the
University of Colorado's Real Estate Club and the owner of two
successful businesses. During schooling and as a post-graduate, Mr. Macko successfully built and managed one of the greenest residential projects
in Connecticut. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, RESNET Energy
Rater, Certified Green Building Professional, and Certified Sustainable
Building Advisor, as well as Chair of the Bay Area LEED Users Group
(BAyLUG), board member of the California Deconstruction and Reuse
Network, active member of the Northern California Chapter of the USGBC,
and member of the Emerging Green Builders. Mr. Macko co-wrote the LEED 2009 exam. As a result,
he regularly presents on the changes to LEED throughout Northern
California.

Pauline Souza, LEED AP

Pauline Souza is an architect and LEED Accredited Professional with 25 years of experience primarily focused on the design and management of facilities for education. As an Associate Partner and the Director of Green Services at WRNS Studio, she is responsible for implementing sustainable design principles into all of the studio's projects and business operations. She is currently responsible for nine projects in various stages of LEED certification utilizing LEED NC, LEED CS, LEED EB and LEED S, and has used other benchmark systems including CHPS, LABS 21, Build It Green and GGHC.
Ms. Souza has dedicated her career to building a more sustainable world. She is committed to sharing what she has learned with the larger community and she speaks regularly at conferences and expos and contributes often to publications focused on sustainability. Ms. Souza has been involved with the USGBC since its inception, and is entirely familiar with its history and its current Strategic Plan. She is currently serving as the Green Schools Advocate for the USGBC-NCC, working to bring the message about greening schools to the K-12 and Higher Education Market. She previously served as the Co-Chair of the Green Building Resource Subcommittee, and has assisted in various activities including participating in the State Legislative Task Force of the NCC and the Water Conservation Showcase . Ms. Souza is also a contributing Member of the National AIA Committee on the Environment Communications Committee. She earned her Bachelor in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.

Larry Strain, LEED AP

Larry Strain been involved with sustainable design for over 35 years. He studied ecological systems at the Evergreen State College in the early 1970's, was a student instructor at the Farallones Institute in California with Sim Van der Ryn and Peter Calthorpe, and in the mid 1970's, co-founded and served as the General Contractor for the Solar Center, one of the largest solar design and installation companies in the Bay Area. Mr. Strain received a Masters in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1983, and became a partner at Siegel & Strain Architects in 1990.
Mr. Strain wrote Resourceful Specifications (guideline specifications for environmentally considered building materials and construction methods), which was awarded the 1998 Practice & Technology Award from the AIA, East Bay Chapter. Mr. Strain has consulted on sustainable design to the San Francisco Department of Architecture, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, and led workshops for the EPA and GSA. He has taught sustainable design courses at U.C. Berkeley, and in 2001 was a visiting faculty at the International Laboratory for Architecture and Urban Design in Venice, Italy. Mr. Strain is a LEED AP and Fellow in the American Institute of Architects. Siegel & Strain Architects has won numerous awards for sustainable design, including three AIA COTE Top Ten Projects Awards.

Remi Tan is a licensed senior architect, sustainability consultant, and real estate broker with 21 years of experience in a broad range of domestic and international commercial and residential projects. He is an expert in all aspects of sustainable design – siting, energy conservation, sustainable materials, and smart growth. Mr. Tan is currently working on the new LEED-NC Platinum SFPUC building with KMD|Stevens. Previously, Mr. Tan was the sustainability manager at Heller Manus Architects, where he lead the design and LEED submittal for the Emeryville Marketplace project, the first LEED for Neighborhood Development Pilot Platinum Stage-1 project in the country. He oversaw sustainability of all projects, including the first LEED-CS-Gold office tower in SF, and sustainability concepts for several large urban master-plans in China.
Mr. Tan is co-vice-chair of Pacifica’s Green Building Taskforce developing Pacifica’s green building ordinance, and was a former planning commissioner there. He serves on the Greenbelt Alliance’s review team for endorsing smart-growth projects, the Pacifica School District’s Green Committee, and SPUR’s Sustainable Development committee. Mr. Tan graduated with high-honors from UC Berkeley’s CED with a BA Architecture and a minor in City and Regional Planning in 1988, where he studied sustainability early on with the Building Science and the Conservation Resource Studies Departments.

Ms. Traber is
Director of the Green Building Group at KEMA. With an extensive background
as Project Architect and Principal on numerous green building projects,
Ms. Traber brings a practical approach and a wealth of experience to
her consulting work. Services within KEMA’s Green Building Group
include design assistance, eco-charrettes, LEED® documentation,
commissioning, green building guideline development and green building
policy development. Ms. Traber’s experience includes office buildings,
public facilities, community centers, commercial facility improvements
and renovations, campus planning and housing, community facilities and
single and multi-family residential.
Prior to joining KEMA, Ms. Traber established her own firm specializing
in residential green construction and green building consulting.
Previously, Ms. Traber was Managing Principal of Van der Ryn Architects
in Sausalito, California, a leading firm specializing in high
performance green buildings. Ms. Traber is a licensed Architect in the
State of California and a LEED® Accredited Professional. In addition,
she serves on the Board of Directors of West Coast Green and is a past
Board member of Build It Green.
